Hello, my name is Karen Taillon. I have lived in Puyallup for 27 years with my husband, Tim, and our three children. I earned an associates degree in Early Childhood Education and taught preschool through the co-op preschools at Pierce College for five years when my children were young. I opened a licensed family home child care and preschool in our home in 2008 when our oldest daughter began attending the University of Washington. Our son began attending WSU three years later, followed by our youngest daughter attending and graduating from the University of Washingtion in 2021. I'm proud to be the mom of both Husky and Cougar graduates! My team always wins the Apple Cup.
I absolutely love my job! I especially love the relationships that I have built with families and children that have attended SHCC. It is a joy to watch a child grow and learn over several years! I am so lucky to have such a rewarding job!

My Philosophy
I believe in considering the whole child when working with young children. I consistantly consider each child's physical, cognitive, and social growth when developing the preschool and pre-k environment. I believe in providing a nurturing environment where children feel comfortable and free to explore new things.
Daily Schedule
Our mornings are devoted to preschool and pre-k activities, including learning centers, art, outside time, snack and circle/music time. After lunch, the children are offered a nap/rest time. After a short rest time, if some of the older children are awake, an additional pre-k learning time is offered working on literacy, math and fine motor skills while the younger children nap. The late afternoon is devoted to freeplay in our learning centers.
